Cybercriminals are sending out Winter Olympic-themed social posts, phishing emails, and messages.

Be super cautious with Olympic themed emails, social media posts, and text messages. Cybercriminals use relatable and popular topics to trap their victims. Since the Winter Olympics has started there have been more scams with this topic. The Winter Olympics consists of 91 countries and has billions of viewers tuning in worldwide.  This is intriguing to cybercriminals because it gives them an opportunity to target billions of people. Ways cybercriminals try to trick you are by playing with your emotions to try to get you to react impulsively. This can be done by intriguing headlines and shocking stories.

Tips

  • Stay informed from the Olympic official broadcasts and make sure to get your information from trusted news sources.
  • Be on the lookout and cautious of any crazy or shocking headlines. Remember not to believe everything you read on the internet and that articles can have false information.
  • Always think before you click. No matter how intriguing a headline, post or email can sound make sure to be cautious with what links you click on or attachments you open.
