Polish Government Phishing Scam

In the latest phishing scam, cybercriminals are targeting the Polish government. The cybercriminals’ main goal is to use wording in the email that creates an urgency and trick you into clicking on the link they provide. In this email, they give you information about a person who has been in contact with Polish authorities and to get more information on this mysterious person click on the link to learn more. When you click on the link, it redirects you to websites and then you end at .zip files. The .zip file looks like it will lead to a picture of the person but once you click on the it, it’s actual malware that triggers and downloads when someone opens it. When malware is on your devices, cybercriminals can access everything from sensitive information, payment info, keystrokes, passwords, etc.

TIPS:

  • This could happen to any company or government, so always be on the lookout.
  • Always look for red flags in emails. Look to see the time and sender that sent it, hover over links, pay attention to wording, and notice if they have poor grammar or spelling errors.
  • Never click on a link in an unexpected email.
  • Follow company policy and report phishing emails appropriately.
