Malicious Apps Scam
In the latest scam, cybercriminals are uploading screen recording apps on the Google Play Store. These apps are known as Trojan apps and contain malicious software on them. These apps can be tricky to detect, and thousands of people have downloaded them. Once a user downloads the app, the app asks the user to accept permissions. By accepting these permissions, the person is allowing cybercriminals to access all their personal information. Cybercriminals will be able to see locations, messages, usernames, passwords, etc.
Tips:
- Make sure to have all security settings and measures on like Google Play Protect so that it can scan for any malicious apps.
- Remember that anyone can publish apps. Make sure to only download apps from trusted sources and make sure to do your research before downloading.
- Any platform that apps can be downloaded from can be a part of this type of attack, not just Google Play.
