Cybercriminals are calling people on WhatsApp in their latest vishing scam.
Are you using WhatsApp? Cybercriminals have a new vishing scam circulating. They are calling people from an unknown number and using a robotic voice asking for them to add this number to their contacts.
What you should know
- This might seem like just a weird call and not a scam. Behind the scenes cybercriminals are adding your number to a list for them to use for their future scams.
- With you adding their number to your contacts, you have now made yourself a target for scams where cybercriminals can potentially trick you into stealing your account information, ask you to give them a verification code they send you, and even demand money for you.
Tips:
- Always add two-step authentication to your accounts when available. It gives an extra layer of protection!
- Report and block weird numbers that might be calling you on apps or texting you.
- If you get an unexpected phone call and request to do something, don’t do the action it could be a scam!
