PDF Scam
Cybercriminals are using PDF attachments to install malware and collect your personal data.
Cybercriminals are scaring people into thinking something is wrong with their account and tricking people into opening a PDF attachment.
What you Need to Know:
- Cybercriminals are impersonating Microsoft, DocuSign, and PayPal. They use real logos and branding to make their emails look legit.
- This scam is unexpected, has a PDF attachment, and includes instructions to call the customer service number.
- Cybercriminals want you to call the number and then they will help you solve the problem with your account. There is nothing wrong with your account, they are just wanting you to download malware on your device, give them your login credentials and steal other personal data from you.
TIPS:
- Never open an attachment from an unexpected email and from someone you don’t know.
- If you think this might be a legit email, go to your account on a trusted website and check to see if there is an issue. Always look to see if a customer service number matches the number provided on a company’s real website before calling anyone.
