Hidden Invisible Text in Emails Scam
Cybercriminals have created a new scam that has hidden text in their phishing emails that AI is picking up when you ask it to summarize the email.
Cybercriminals know that more people are using AI to help speed up daily work tasks of theirs. Some people are having AI read their emails and cybercriminals have catered their latest scam to target those people. Cybercriminals are sending a phishing email that looks completely normal but are using invisible text that has warnings about your password being compromised. This text can be picked up from AI chatbots like Google Gemini.
What you need to know:
- Emails can have hidden text in them even if they seem like an unsuspicious email.
- If you use AI to provide a summary of the email, it will say you have a security alert from Google and need to call the support phone number.
- If you call the phone number, you will not be talking to Google support but will be talking to a cybercriminal.
Tips:
- Always be cautious of unexpected emails.
- Google would never send you a security alert that has hidden text in it and can only be read with Google Gemini summaries.
- Don’t call a number that was generated from an AI summary. Go to the trusted website to look up any support numbers.
