Amazon Scam
Cybercriminals are sending out smishing text messages claiming a product has been recalled.
Cybercriminals are using Amazon in one of their latest scams again. This time they are sending out text messages (a smishing scam) about an item you purchased has been recalled.
What You Need to Know:
- This text message will include a link to get a full refund and state you don’t need to return the item or do anything besides tap the link to get your money back.
- When a person taps on the link, it directs them to a fake Amazon page that cybercriminals created. Any information plugged into this page like payment information, login information and personal information will be stolen by them.
TIPS:
- Never tap on a link from an unexpected text message.
- If you think this recall might be true then verify by logging into your Amazon app or going to a trusted browser and logging in that way.
- If something sounds too good to be true, like a full refund without returning the item, be cautious since it might be a scam.
