Unusual Activity On Your Account Scam

Have you gotten emails stating that there has been unusual activity on your account? You might have fallen victim to cybercriminals latest scam.

In this scam, cybercriminals send you an email saying there has been unusual activity on your Microsoft account and they have locked certain features because of it. They also include a link for you to look at the unusual activity. This link redirects you to a fake lookalike Microsoft login page. The cybercriminals want to make you feel fear of not being able to access those features, so you preform the action they want which is signing into your account on their fake page. Once you sign into your account, you sadly won’t be taken to your account page but will have just handed over your login and password information. Cybercriminals can use this to steal your sensitive information.

TIPS:

  • Never click on a link from an unexpected email.
  • Always login into your account by using a safe browser or your app to verify if there is any unusual activity.
  • Look for grammatical errors, weird wording, sender of email and time of email to help you determine if it’s a scam or not.
