Facebook Messenger Scam

Cybercriminals are now using Facebook Messenger in their latest scam. They are targeting business accounts. The cybercriminals are sending a message asking questions about the business and acting like they are truly interested in learning more. They include an attachment in this message that is encrypted with malware. If the person opens the attachment, it will automatically install malware on your device. With this malware installed, cybercriminals can watch your every move including keystrokes when you login into accounts and they can look through your personal/sensitive information.

Tips:

  • Always be cautious of messages, emails, and texts you were not expecting that include links or attachments. Most likely they are scams.
  • Cybercriminals can use this scam on any social media platform, it is not just limited to Facebook Messenger.
  • Never download an attachment or click on a link that you weren’t expecting.
